Seasonal Conservation / Park Technician

The Bremer County Conservation Board is seeking candidates to fill 3 Seasonal Park Maintenance positions. The selected individuals will assist in a variety of tasks associated with the management of parks, wildlife areas and trails managed by the Bremer County Conservation Board. These positions will require some weekend, night and holiday hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license. Successful candidate shall pass background check as well as a physical and drug screen. Ability to routinely lift 50lbs and work in all weather conditions. Ability to operate and assist with the maintenance of various outdoor equipment.

DESCRIPTION: Seasonal position under general supervision of the Director and direct supervision of the Natural Resource Technicians. Performs mowing, weed eating, cleaning of facilities, facility and park maintenance, public relations, interaction with park visitors and other jobs as assigned. May assist the county Naturalists with outdoor education programming as needed. Preferred experience in operation of equipment such as mowers, trimmers, skid loaders, tractors, chain saws and hand tools. Will work a non standard work week with some night, weekend and holiday work required. This is a seasonal position running from approximately May to September and will not exceed 40 hours per week.

Wage: $9.00 - $10.00/hr

Vegetation Management Aide

Bremer County is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Roadside Vegetation Management Aide.

Employment Period: April through October with time period somewhat flexible for students.
Duties: The Roadside Vegetation Management Aide will assist the Roadside Vegetation Manager with all aspects of managing roadside vegetation. This will include, but is not limited to: controlling noxious weeds, conducting prescribed burns, roadside mowing, managing and removal of roadside trees and brush, planting right-of-way vegetation, erosion control, maintenance of existing plantings and routine maintenance on department equipment. The aide will also assist in other department related programs/projects.

Requirements and Certifications:

Must be a self-motivated individual with the ability to apply common sense and have the knowledge to achieve goals and objectives.  Knowledge of, or the ability to learn about grassland management and plant identification.  The ability to routinely stand, walk, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and operate power and hand tools.  Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and loud noises; and have the ability to routinely lift 75lbs; ability to follow written and oral instructions.  Applicant must possess or acquire a Category 6 Right-of-Way Iowa Pesticide certification within 30 days of hire.  Knowledge of truck, tractor and small engine powered equipment operation and maintenance.  Must be 18 years old and possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Salary: $10.00 - $14.00hour.  Commensurate with qualifications.

Engineering Aide


The Bremer County Highway Department is seeking applicants to fill an Engineering Aide I or II position. Applicants should have an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology and two years of experience in construction design and Inspection with a strong emphasis on surveying, including responsibility for project preparation, documentation and development; or may substitute additional experience for the education requirement.  Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, and have or be able to obtain certification as an Iowa DOT aggregate, asphalt cement concrete and Portland cement concrete plant inspector.
