Bremer County Health Department Administrator
The Bremer County Health Department (BCHD) Administrator oversees a major county department that includes Public Health and Home Health, is an integral part of the County’s operations, and is critical to the agency’s success. The BCHD Administrator is responsible for the planning, coordinating and implementation of all activities of the BCHD and works with local, regional, state and federal officials to ensure the health of Bremer County residents. The BCHD Administrator is appointed by and reports to the Bremer County Board of Health.
1. Education and Experience: The Bremer County Health Department Administrator shall meet one of the following criteria:
a. A master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public health, health administration, or other applicable field and a minimum of three years of experience in public health OR
b. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health administration, or other applicable field, and a minimum of five years of experience in public health OR
c. A bachelor’s degree not in public health or other applicable field and a minimum of six years of experience in public health.
2. Licensure: The Bremer County Health Department Administrator shall be licensed in the state of Iowa to practice nursing.
3. Additional Qualifications: The Bremer County Health Department Administrator shall be able to demonstrate the following:
a. Proven, responsible, health care management skills (preferably in the field of home care).
b. Verbal and written communication aptitude to facilitate effective communication with clients, families, staff, Board of Supervisor members, Board of Health members and medical professionals (including) physicians.
c. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for accurate perception of client behaviors during communication, evaluation, and treatment.
d. Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective client, family and staff interaction.
